SPEEDER CHARGED AT TWICE THE LIMIT

Oxford COUNTY

(Springford ON) – A Brant County man will be walking over the long weekend after being stopped in Springfield for speeding.

An Elgin County OPP officer was conducting stationary radar on Main Street, due to complaints about speeders in the Hamlet. At 10:50am this morning a vehicle was observed traveling at a high rate of speed in the posted 50 km/hour speed zone. The radar confirmed the vehicle, a 2005 Mercedes, was traveling over twice the posted speed limit. A 66 year old Brant County man was charged with “race a motor vehicle” (114kms/h in a posted 50kms/h zone) 64 kms/h over the post speed limit. His vehicle was impounded and licence suspended, both for 7 days.

“The Elgin County OPP want to make it clear there will be a zero tolerance for aggressive drivers especially with the long weekend approaching” said Staff Sgt. Tim Clark, Elgin County OPP.  “Some drivers may think the OPP patrolling emphasise is only on the major highways and they are wrong” said Clark. “We are also out to make sure our smaller communities are safe too. We are asking drivers to slow down, obey the rules of the road to prevent a needless tragedy from happening either to themselves or other members of the public. “
